“Future Kids” Program

There are 100,000 homeless children in Addis Ababa alone. Hunger in this country is gradually increasing. The AIDS epidemic accounts for a huge percentage of adult deaths, leaving thousands of children orphaned. Nevertheless, they are stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no help in sight.

We believe the children are the future, and there are an inconceivable number of homeless, lost, children in the streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from the ages of 5-18 years. Street children are continuously exposed to various forms of exploitation, involving sexual exploitation. They do not have access to basic rights such as access to an education, supervision, and proper care. These children have no legal, psychological or social support whatsoever.

Our focal point for “Future Kids’ is to give them a chance to explore their creative side, to learn and develop life long skills. To build character and self confidence that will gradually transform their lives so that they may reach their full potential and escape the cycles of homelessness and poverty. To provide them with mentors that will help strengthen their character and develop their self esteem through sports, theology, education.

Programs

Future kids programs are fashioned to create a supportive environment with positive child-mentor relationships. From beginning to end, children are encouraged to set personal and realistic long and short term goals. The children are given responsibilities and leadership opportunities intended to give them a will to succeed. They are encouraged to focus on their accomplishments instead of their failures. These are critical periods for children, they need a positive environment to be able to cope with lives challenges.

The children are taught etiquette, basic english, grooming, a trade and are expected to attend church services and bible classes. We are helping children grow in all areas of life, mentally, physically and spiritually. Every child deserves a fair chance and we want to give it to them.
